To start, we studied the materials and assemblages of the Wood office building by Modus architects. This multi-story mass-timber building, located in Bressanone, serves as a headquarters for the timber company Damiani Hols & Ko. The facade uses a rainscreen of ungulating wood fins that serve as both an aesthetic feature and a passive cooling device. In this project, we were tasked with re-inventing the facade based on other facade systems studied in the course. Because this timber company produces so much sawdust, we decided to create a timber brick rainscreen system that would recycle that waste and keep the aesthetic and function of the original fins.
