hotel CaliforniaThe premise of this project was to create a radical new approach to the tower typology for hospitality. Hotel California celebrates the many different landscapes and outdoor activities California has to offer through a new building typology. Four planar towers just wide enough for a single row of hotel rooms and circulation lean codependently on each other. A series of outdoor park environments connect these towers and provide space for hotel amenities and public programs.
The theme of our hotel is rooted in core California culture, specifically California recreation. We wanted to think about why people come to California and what they want to experience and then celebrate those aspects with the environments we create in the building. In Los Angeles some popular tourist activities are people watching at the Venice beach skate park, Pic-nics at the beach, watching live music, mountain biking in the desert, camping under the stars, and more. In our building, guests can get a taste of all these things mixed in with traditional hospitality elements such as bars, spas, gyms, and restaurants.
